Do you feel like a break now that the busy festive season is over and the new year has arrived? Us too! So for this week’s photo prompts for Roll Around the Block we’re escaping the city and heading to a favourite place to unwind.

We haven’t reached the peak of summer heat yet but we’re on our way to it, and as I write this the blue sky and birds are abundant outside my window. It’s a perfect time in Melbourne to get out of the busy city and be by the beach, building sandcastles and splashing in the waves. Or as we did from this spot yesterday, whale watching as one slowly made its way through the bay, surfacing occasionally with a blast of water from its blowhole. There’s a lot to photograph at the beach, from the details of seashells and sand to the grandness of the horizon, and this week I’d love to see how your little ones capture the seaside. With that in mind, this week’s list is about sand, surf and fun!

If you’re new to Roll Around the Block or checking out one of our lists for the first time, the tiny & little photo prompts are a list of photo ideas only. If you choose to photograph at the beach and photographer’s block strikes, you might like to suggest one of the prompts on this list to encourage your little photographer to start clicking again.

Happy snapping and don’t forget to upload your little one’s favourite photos to Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #rollaroundtheblock so they can be in the running to be for inclusion at a digital display at the NGV in January 2014 as part of the NGV’s summer blockbuster exhibition Melbourne Now!
