It's time for the first of our photography tip posts as part of Roll Around the Block for Melbourne Now, and for this we're starting with what is possibly THE most important thing... light. When it comes to photography, using light - or the lack of it - well is what takes photos from good to stunning, and helping your little one see and use the light they're shooting in is invaluable. So today, for our tips series for little photographers we're taking a look at light throughout the day and sharing our tips for each.
It's time for another instalment of photo ideas for little photographers joining our Roll Around the Block fun this summer. With Christmas only two days away, it seems fitting to encourage little photographers to capture their view of the festive season and its bountiful memory making moments. This week's list is based on it being Christmas-time and things little ones may experience on Christmas Day. If your little photographer is stuck for what to photograph during a roll around the block, these prompts could help to get them clicking.
The weekend has arrived and here in Melbourne that means it's official - school's out for summer! It's time to enjoy having the little ones at home for the rest of the year... and it's also time to think of fun activities to keep the kids entertained. Word on the street is that there's a fun and free activity you can do with your little ones anywhere, anytime these holidays...
We've all had that moment when our mind draws a blank. When you stare at a sheet of paper trying to think of the first words to pen. When you try to remember why you came into the room. When you answer the phone at work while pregnant and forget what your name is mid-sentence. Oh, just me on that last one...? It's easy to find yourself starting something with enthusiasm and then being hit with the dreaded block that makes your mind freeze. As you're joining in our Roll Around the Block for Melbourne Now kids photography project for the NGV this summer (hint, hint!) you might find your little one faces photographer's block along the way. We're here to help!
On the former tiny & little site, I published a series of "Roll Around the Block" posts which were photography posts done by my children. The concept is that I hand the little ones a smart phone or one of my little point and shoot digital cameras and I give them one guideline - they need to imagine they have a roll of film so can only take 24 shots. Then I sit back and watch as they capture their world. It is truly fascinating to see what interests them and have a glimpse at the world through their eyes.
It's a balmy summer night and the circus is in town. I'm standing in front of the big top where OVO, the Cirque du Soleil show currently touring Australia, will be performed later this evening. The bright yellow and blue of the big top rises up to the Cirque du Soleil flags, accompanied by the national flags of Australia and Canada. It takes me a few minutes to notice that behind the big top runs one of the most prominent and busy traffic bridges in Melbourne. Such is the presence of Cirque du Soleil and its ability to draw one into the moment, forgetting all else.
