It is very easy to make craft into a detailed activity with step-by-step instructions, especially with sites like Pinterest to inspire creative pursuits, but when it comes to little ones simple is sometimes a whole lot more fun. A few objects and a couple steps to create something beautiful is perfect for those who like to create on-the-go or see an outcome to their creativity quickly.
Some days are a challenge. Some weeks. Some months. You know, those times when the days are long with small moments of challenge littered throughout the day. Like the past week here at tiny & little.

I wondered how a babyhood filled with memories so big can be wrapped up in boxes so small....

On the former tiny & little site, I published a series of "Roll Around the Block" posts which were photography posts done by my children. The concept is that I hand the little ones a smart phone or one of my little point and shoot digital cameras and I give them one guideline - they need to imagine they have a roll of film so can only take 24 shots. Then I sit back and watch as they capture their world. It is truly fascinating to see what interests them and have a glimpse at the world through their eyes.
I love it when the little ones create artistic pieces that are rough around the edges. The perfect imperfection of sculptures that bend and bow, and colours that don't conform to expectations and remain inside the lines, reminds me of a creative side that we sadly seem to lose as we get older. Watching children create their own world of purple seas and green suns is fascinating and something I will never grow tired of. This craft activity is a terrific opportunity for the little ones to create an artwork they can hold in their hands, or give to someone special, that looks better because it is perfectly imperfect.
I've mentioned before how much I adore baking and scones are one of those treats that take me back to my childhood. I'm sure my creations then weren't as good as the ones I make today - these are light, fluffy and oh so delicious warm with my favourite cherry jam and a dollop of cream - but the memories that are made over them are just as special.
You may have noticed recently on tiny & little that there's been quite a bit of talk about cooking, here on the blog and on instagram. There's something about autumn that always sees me spending more time in the kitchen. I adore the cooler weather for a chance to take a break from the salads of summer and bake like crazy. It's partly because of the joy it gives me which I wrote about here and partly because by the end of summer I'm a bit bored with making the same things over and over. I love the chance to mix it up with new seasonal produce and the cloudy days are a terrific excuse to stay indoors.
Earlier this week I shared a peek at my easy peasy meaty meatballs on Instagram with the excited comment that I was looking forward to posting my first savoury recipe ever... then I was reminded about the cheese & vegemite scrolls. Oops. What I was thinking of as I captioned that photo is how I spend a lot of time sharing baking recipes and I was excited to finally be publishing something that would put dinner on the table.

The air has cooled and the darkness is falling earlier and earlier here which can only mean one thing. The days of summer are behind us and autumn has arrived. I love this time of year as the leaves change colour and fall to the ground gently, creating a blanket of crunchy goodness for little ones to jump in. Simple pleasures are truly wonderful. Which is why this party from Apples & Jam is one that...
